Thank you for your interest in American International University. It is Easy to Apply 1. First apply for the degree program you are interested in completing. This can be done by clicking the "ENROLL NOW" link. Enroll in the first portfolio course in the major you are interested in pursuing. Once your application is received, you will be assigned to an academic faculty advisor. Your advisor will contact you by E-mail and will ask you to outline your experiences and training. The cost of the evaluation is included in the tuition for the courses Portfolio I and Portfolio II. These courses may be taken concurrently. Portfolio I generally covers formal training and the documentation of training. Portfolio II generally covers hands on experience and how to document your experience. This varies somewhat depending on the major or department. Your advisor will follow the guidelines of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) when evaluating your portfolio. 2. Once your advisor has completed your assessment you will receive a schedule of courses to complete your degree. This officially enrolls you in your degree program. Payment for additional courses is made at the time your enroll in the course. Access complete financial information from the Finance Office page. English Language Competencies If you are applying from outside the United States or English is not your primary language, you must clearly demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal English language communication skills according to American collegiate standards. A sample of your scholarly (or professional) writing and a telephone communication with a member of the American International University faculty members are both required elements of the admission process. If you are an international student with English as a second language or if your prior college study was with non-English language colleges, you are required to submit a record of a recent TOEFL examination with a 550 score or above. Access to Learning Resources As part of your application, you must provide assurance that you can successfully access appropriate learning resources including texts, journals, periodicals, databases, video- and audiotapes, online resources, relevant reference materials, and manuals of effective research and writing. These are the required materials through which your mentors will guide you in understanding foundational theories, principles and practices, and advanced concepts in your field of study. Access to Educational Technology To be admitted to the University, you must have access to a computer, a telephone and for the duration of your program have access to an E-mail account and the Internet. The University relies upon these technologies to support its major teaching and learning activities, as a means to support your effective interaction with mentors and to transmit documents, instructions and written assignments. Through distance technologies, you are provided guidance, allowing your mentors to explore with you the subject matter at a depth that is beyond the confines of the traditional classroom. Access to Outside Resources You must also demonstrate you have access to essential external resources that provide avenues for practical application of learning such as field placement sites having essential facilities, equipment and qualified personnel. In addition, you are expected to identify professional enrichment activities to supplement your program such as outside seminars, conferences, workshops and retreats and the possibility of membership in professional associations and societies. |
